Juniors Black Stripe Program™

Our Junior Shogun™ Black Stripe Program is a martial arts program for boys and girls ages 8 - 13, and is based on research and education with the combination of personal safety skills and ju jitsu techniques.

This program is based on a traditional stripe color belt system and when the student reaches the last level in the Junior Shogun program they are placed in the Junior Shogun™ Black Stripe Program. The program is very similar to the teens and adults ju jitsu programs however it still utilizes the striping system.

The Junior Shogun™ Black Stripe Program consists of the following:

  • Advanced Stances Breakfalls
  • Advanced Blocks
  • Advanced Hand Techniques
  • Advanced Kicking Techniques
  • Advanced Takedowns
  • Advanced After Throws
  • Advanced Hold Downs
  • Advanced Hold Escapes
  • Self-Defense

Notes for parents:

At Goshinkan Ju Jitsu, we recognize that young children are developing the physical and mental skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives. We try to facilitate this development through the use of gross motor skills and curriculum that develop coordination and focus. Your child will be challenged to perform new techniques and learn about ju jitsu and themselves.

Our Martial Arts program is not for sport and it is not a drill camp. We are focused on self-defense and safety. Along with our self-defense techniques, we teach awareness and personal safety. Our environment is friendly and fun however, children are expected to respect their teachers and peers, focus on techniques and lessons being taught and review their safety skills at home.

As the parent of a Junior Shogun, we ask that you support your child as he or she develops new skills and learns new concepts.

Junior Leader Program™

Our Junior Leader™ Program is a program for boys and girls ages 8 - 13, students are hand picked by black belt instructors to participate in the junior leader program.

This program helps build leadership and strong ju jitsu skills beyond the regular Ju Jitsu Programs. The Junior Leader™ is lent a blue Ju Jitsu Gi embroidered with a Junior Leader logo. The student does not own this Gi as it belongs to the Alberta Ju Jitsu Association. Junior Leaders will wear the blue Gi only when helping with Mini Bushi™ Program and Little Samurai™ Program. After these classes they are to change into their traditional white top, they are allowed to keep the blue pants in during their regular class.

The Junior Leader is expected to assist the Mini Bushi™ and Little Samurai™ students with the following:

  • Dojo Tour
  • Greeting Mini Bushi™ and Little Samurai™
  • Line up and bow in
  • Helping put on and tie their belts
  • Assisting with holding of pads
  • Assisting with keeping the dojo clean

Notes for parents:

At Goshinkan Ju Jitsu, we recognize that some young children are developing leadership skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives. We will invite kids to attend our Junior Leader™ class once monthly for 15 minutes. This class is to assist students who are in the Junior Leader™ Program or assess other kids that might be good candidates for the Junior Leader™ Program.

This program is free and there is not cost for the blue Gi, we only ask that the students keep the Gi clean.

The Warrior's Way

Bushido, the warrior's way, means many things to many people, but its underlying principle is the never-ending quest for self-perfection through mastery of technique and of self; a commitment to deal with all things honestly, honourably, and with a healthy dose of humility.
